How Comic App Interfaces Affect Reading and Story Understanding

This study examines how different digital comic app interfaces affect story comprehension, cognitive load, and reader engagement. It compares full-page layouts, guided view, and single-panel scrolling through surveys, experiments, eye-tracking, and artist interviews. The findings show that guided view improves story recall and emotional engagement, especially for readers less familiar with comic reading patterns. Experienced readers prefer full-page layouts for greater flexibility and visual context. Single-panel scrolling helps readers understand complex stories more easily, but may reduce aesthetic enjoyment.
